How rankings work

Each distinct eligible quality award contributes Bronze = 1, Silver = 2 or Gold-or-higher = 3. An oil’s average includes awards across competitions in the selected competition year, regardless of its release year. Genuine separate category awards count separately; duplicate result records count once. Equal averages share a rank; filtering does not change annual ranks.

This medal index uses the same broad tiers as our competition agreement analysis. New York Silver stays Silver even though that competition does not award Bronze. Gold, Double Gold, Platinum and qualifying higher honours all contribute 3 points. The mapping does not establish equal judging standards, prestige or selectivity. It is not a published judging score.

Non-quality or unclassified judging streams, unknown medal labels, and internal reviews do not contribute points. Oils with no eligible awards remain unranked. Assurance grades do not alter points. Missing competition years are excluded from annual listings rather than replaced with release years. Published judging scores are not mixed into this index.
